Glass window can turn solar generator

Can windows transform into solar generators? Just thinking about it is a good idea. According to the British "Daily Mail" report, the new solar cell developed by the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom in cooperation with a Norwegian company can be used like a glass film, which transmits light and generates electricity. This revolutionary technology can be put into use within five years and is expected to turn every window into a solar generator.

In the past, thin-film solar cells could be perfectly combined with buildings and could be used as a new type of building material. However, the lack of photoelectric conversion efficiency and photo-induced degradation rate seems to have suffered from certain bottlenecks.

The new "Foil" solar cell was designed by EnSolAS of Norway and the raw material was a metal nanoparticle synthesized by researchers at the University of Leicester. These metal particles having a diameter of about 10 nanometers are embedded in a matrix of transparent compounds. Although some of the light must be absorbed in order to generate electricity, the material is also characterized by a portion of light that “sticks” to the surface of the glass doors, windows, transparent roofs, and exterior walls, allowing the user to feel like Light colored glass.

According to Christine Bins, a professor at the University of Leicester, the film is very thin and can "turn the window into a generator." It can be affixed to, or added directly to, glass windows or other building materials during the manufacturing process. Even if it is laid on a large area, it will save much more than the investment of traditional solar energy devices. It can even charge the battery on the car's roof, but researchers say that if you count on it to drive the car, it's comparable to a cart.

At present, small pieces of cell material have been formed, and the next goal of R&D is to systematically improve the technology to achieve a cell efficiency of 20% or higher.
