China's metal processing machine tool imports fell in January 2011

On February 14, the latest statistics released by China's customs showed that in January 2011, China imported 11,277 metal processing machine tools, which was 10.83% lower than the 12,647 units in December 2010 (on-quarter), but compared with January 2010 (in January 2010). The year-on-year growth of 6187 units increased by 85.23%; the import value was approximately 1.022 billion US dollars, a decrease of 7.69% from the previous month and an increase of 85.64% from the same period of last year; the average unit price of imports was 90,634 US dollars per unit, an increase of 3.52% from the previous month and a slight increase of 0.22%.

In 2010, China imported a total of 114,496 metal processing machine tools, an increase of 80.6% year-on-year; the cumulative import value was about 9.424 billion US dollars, a simultaneous increase of 60.1%. The economic recovery has driven the market's demand for machine tools to soar, making China's metal processing machine imports totaled more than US$7.587 billion in 2008, a record high.

Although machine tool imports maintained a relatively high growth rate, the average unit price of machine tools imported in 2010 was US$85,565 per unit, down 6.85% from 2009 and 4.1% from 2008. In addition, the average import unit price of CNC machine tools in China dropped by nearly 30% in 2010. It can be seen that the increase in the import volume of high-end machine tools in China is obvious, indicating that the import structure of China's machine tools is still unreasonable and needs to be further optimized.
