China National Grid announces smart grid technology standards recently

The State Grid Corporation of China has recently released its smart grid technology standards and has apparently intended to become a drafter of national standards, because at present there is no national standard for smart grids in China. In 2010, the company plans to invest RMB 250 billion in full scale, and less than 10% will invest in smart grids, mainly for pilot demonstration projects.

According to the data, the "Smart Grid Technology Standard System Planning" has systematically proposed a smart grid technology standard system including eight professional branches, 26 technical fields and 92 standard series in China for the first time. Wang Yimin, director of the State Grid Smart Grid Department, said that they hope to become the drafting unit of the national standard, and the National Standardization Management Committee will also consider the wishes and opinions of various parties. He said that it is expected that national standards will be introduced soon, and that the later the standards are introduced, the greater the cost of error correction in the future.

Insiders pointed out that with the gradual clearing of the "roadmap" for China's smart grid development, this will bring huge business opportunities of more than 1 trillion yuan to related industries. However, the design of smart grid standards should have been designed by the relevant national authorities. Now a grid company has issued its own technical standards that have been predominantly compiled. Although it has not yet become a national standard, once the national grid’s strength is implemented, not only The direction that may affect the development of national standards will also set a threshold for many other companies, especially those related to electricity.

Similarly, the standard also involves the supply of related equipment. At present, there are already three equipment manufacturers under the State Grid Corporation, and the market has expected that the smart grid technology standards set by the State Grid may constitute a “preferential interest” for these three companies. Obviously, how the smart grid standards developed by the grid companies may hurt them.
