New Concentrator Solar Photovoltaic Battery with 43.5% Efficiency Record

Solar Junction, a supplier of multi-junction cells in the concentrator photovoltaic market, claims that its prototype battery production conversion efficiency has broken the world record by 43.5%. Solar Junction is a high-efficiency multi-junction solar cell manufacturer. One of its advantages is the use of III-V materials with an adjustable band gap of 1 eV.

This achievement was obtained under the support of the United States Department of Energy (DOE) photovoltaic incubator project and the management of its subsidiary National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). The battery conversion efficiency has been confirmed by the NREL Measurement Characterization Laboratory.

The battery sample area is 5.5mm x 5.5mm, an increase of 1.2% over the previous record holder's average efficiency.
