Four Standards for Electric Vehicle Charging

Sinochem New Network News The four standards for electric vehicle charging that was originally scheduled to be introduced in January 2012 have recently been introduced in advance. The situation regarding the confusion of the electric vehicle charging device interface in China will end. Yesterday, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers announced on the official website that four national standards for charging electric vehicles were issued.

Promoting the Accelerated Development of the Electric Vehicle Industry Under the joint efforts of the National Standards Committee, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the National Energy Board, the four national standards for electric vehicle charging interfaces and communication protocols were successfully completed, and they were completed on December 22, 2011 to 2011. The 21st Announcement of the People's Republic of China was approved and promulgated. They are "Part 1: General Requirements for Conductive Charging Connections for Electric Vehicles", "Connecting Devices for Conductive Charging of Electric Vehicles Part 2: AC Charging Interface", and "Electric Vehicles". Conductive Charging Connections Part 3: DC Charging Interfaces, and Communication Protocols between Non-Vehicle Conductive Chargers for Electric Vehicles and Battery Management Systems. These four standards will be implemented on March 1, 2012.

Analysts believe that after the standardization is unified, it is expected that the infrastructure such as charging stations and the electric vehicle industry will accelerate development.

Zhao Chunming, head of the Tianjin Qingyuan Electric Vehicle Research Institute, told Shanghai Securities News that the construction of charging facilities is inseparable from the standards and guidance of relevant standards. In the early days of the promotion of electric vehicles, the country’s encouragement policies will play a crucial role. After the implementation of these four standards, it will have a major impact on domestic vehicle manufacturers, electric vehicle infrastructure manufacturers, and major charging interface component companies.

In fact, before all parties involved in the manufacture of electric vehicles and around the construction of charging stations, charging piles and other facilities, have encountered the contradictions brought about by the inconsistent standards, to some extent, hindered the rapid development of the electric vehicle industry.

It can be said that the entire upstream and downstream companies in the electric vehicle industry chain are eagerly awaiting the introduction of industry standards as soon as possible.

There are still many standards to be announced. As early as last November, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) had solicited opinions on relevant standards for pure electric vehicles and announced three series of recommended national standards such as “Connecting Devices for Conductive Charging of Electric Vehicles” to solicit opinions from the public.

According to reports, the above-mentioned standards are based on the principles of joint participation in the automotive industry, energy industry, and electrical industry. The three typical companies in the three industries have participated in the drafting and discussion of standards, and fully considered the harmonization and coordination with existing standards.

According to Wei Zhaofeng, the chairman of the National Standards Committee, the reporter disclosed that at present China has formed a coordination mechanism for the standardization of electric vehicles, which is composed of the National Standards Committee, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Energy Bureau and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. To date, there are 25 standard planning projects related to electric vehicle charging facilities. Among them, to complete the standard preparation, six standards have been submitted for approval, one approval draft has been issued, 11 review drafts have been submitted, one consultation draft has been issued, and five preparation stages have been completed. The standards related to charging facilities for electric vehicles mainly include the following aspects: charging interface and communication protocol standards; charging station construction and operation standards; replacement station construction standards; standards for coordination of charging facilities and power grids.
